Over prolonged use, the Milgard Ultra Series sash lock on your window could begin to wear down. At that point, in the interest of security for your home, it is imperative for you to replace it. This article will guide you through the process of how to replace your Milgard Ultra Series sash lock. (Please make sure to read our FAQs disclaimer before reviewing or enacting any FAQ content/recommendations.)
The materials required for this process putty knife, Phillips head screwdriver, and a new sash lock, safety glasses, and gloves.
Before you begin, note that you will find the sash lock on the operable portion of the window. To start, you are going to want to tilt the sash of your double hung window inward. To do that, find the two sash tilt buttons and press both of them at the same time. Then lower the sash towards you to open. Next, you need to take your flat putty knife and use it to take out the top thumb lock by prying it up and away from the sash. Then, you will take the Phillips head screwdriver and use it to take out the screws from the interior operator lock. After you remove the screws, take out the old sash lock from the panel.
Now we are going to insert the new sash lock. First, find the lock gear on the new lock and the nylon tension strap at the top of the window sash in the aluminum casing. Insert the new sash lock by placing it into the sash while checking that the nylon tension strap is set correctly into the slot on the lock operator gear. Then, take your Phillips head screwdriver and reinsert the screws into the interior operator lock. Insert the thumb lock on the operator with the handle turned to the right. Next, you need to press the thumb lock onto the operator. Now, you have installed your new sash lock on your Milgard window. Before closing the sash, though, check the lock to make sure the side lock guides work. Then, finish by closing the sash.
